Chitral to Gilgit Journey
The journey from Chitral to Gilgit via Shandur Pass is one of the most spectacular road trips in the world. From Booni we drive north through the Yarkhun and Laspur valleys, crossing Shandur Pass at 3,734m — the world's highest polo ground. The landscape changes with every hour: terraced wheat fields give way to pine forests, then bare high-altitude plateau, then the dramatic gorges of the Gilgit River as we descend into Gilgit-Baltistan. Nights are spent in local guesthouses or under canvas. This is Pakistan's mountain heartland, driven in a vehicle built for it.
